The more diverse your roster is, especially during the main game, the more versatile your playstyles can be. On the higher end, that makes for lots and lots and lots of options for those interested in doing niche or pet strategies. So many good Pokemon just left out of the game with nothing really making up for it. For instance, there's nothing in the game that really does what Dragonite can do. Especially when taking Multiscale into account.
