>>42509015There is a noticable disconnect with the Pokemon core fandom ("core fandom" here referring to the people who regularly play the games and take part in online discourse) and the core fandom of gaming in general. The same is actually true of Nintendo as a whole, but Pokemon fans especially. This manifests in how a fair portion of the Pokemon fandom simply isn't used to aware of things that exist outside of Pokemon.
A good example of this is how many people immediately jumped on the "Game Freak is EA now" bandwagon when the DLC was announced. EA being notorious for DLC hasn't been a relevant notion for more than half a decade, and if anything, other companies that previously used the "entirely new release for the same thing with expanded content" have been praised for dropping that in favour of expansions (see: the vast majority of Fighting games which transitioned to either expansion/season pass style content delivery).
