I'm of the type that would rather use what is available in canon. When it comes to Pokémon, that's player characters, run-of-the-mill NPC trainer classes where you see several characters with the same design,
and Pokémon. Trainer customization I also approve as long as the option is there in-game, though that can push it at times.
