I kinda agree with op as well. Why wouldn't you want to play the game as a protagonist of your same gender. Don't people want to feel like they ARE the character they are controlling. Idk that's as why I pick male to get a feeling like it's me battling with my pokemon. I have a friend who always picks a girl as an avatar and i give him my stern 2cents (he's a slot machine) though that could be because his mom died when he was young
