They open from the top rather than the bottom (see the backs of TCG cards) and the top is transparent so you can see the miniaturized Pokémon inside.
Different Pokéballs are obsolete. They should make it so you have a Pokéball machine with infinite ammo, and instead of buying better balls you earn upgrades to the machine that makes them like the other balls, such as upping catch rate. Of course, you'd also be able to customize each ball's appearance.
