Gen 3 contests were shit too and the most infuriating thing in every single pokemon game. 99% of the time I'd manage to stay right up there near the top, then try to go for the kill and win the damned thing, only to have some asshole use some shitty move that would fuck me over and steal all my hearts, They wouldn't even win with that so I'm 100% sure the AI is just programmed to screw you over and stop you from winning. The only reason anyone would claim to have enjoyed the bullshit that was gen 3 contests is because they have nostalgia goggles sewn over their face.
