Gen 3:
+hard counter to most of the common pokemon used not named crocune
+great typing and stats for its gen
+signature move that destroys almost anything unboosted, with option to increase attack
+gives no shits about sand and toxic, two of the common things in the gen
-psychic stab is useless
-almost every pokemon carries EQ for this guy, not like it matters with its high def
-elemental punches are useless to it
Gen 4:
+special split makes the punches usable
+gains a weaker version of psychic that can flinch (useless due to low speed)
-garchomp
-heatran
-scizor gains two great buffs, and outclasses this thing as a steel type
-earthquake is still widely distributed
Gen 5:
+VGC main format is doubles, where it shines when partnered with cresselia
+still doesnt give a shit about intimidate
-ferrothorn
-strong special attackers are introduced
-low speed catches up to it, making it even more useless compared to scizor
-drizzle and drought do more to hurt it than improve
-explosion nerfed
-useless DW ability
Gen 6:
+slight increase in sp. def
+assault vest
-aegislash
-steel nerf
-gains two weaknesses due to steel nerf
-meteor mash nerfed
-no mega
-fire types are popular
The years have been horrible to metagross. What was a pokemon designed to keep the pseudos from not being too popular became useless due to nerfs and not getting a single damn buff. Meanwhile salamence gets moxie, tyranitar gets a mega and so does garchomp
