I wouldn't put sabotage past them, but it would be a stupid thing to do because just like Charizard is the face of Fire Types, Greninja can be the face of Water types without the issue of an overlap and with a different audience in mind. He still gets a shitton of merch and was the only non-Gen 1 Pokemon to get a BigMore Plush along with continous new merch, so he's still one of their posterboys regardless.
