Also, I imagine they're not as good as human-made medicines (unlike in the games, where a Burn Heal and a Rawst berry both heal burns equally well). Limiting the effectiveness of berries helps make them less gamey or overpowered, while still giving them a purpose.
For example, I think Oran and Sitrus berries act like painkillers and help injured Pokemon heal faster, but force feeding a dozen of them to your Pokemon won't bring them back to perfect health instantly, unlike how they work in the games. Similarly, Pecha berries help neutralize poison, but they may not work on all poisons, and they may not take effect immediately.
