I always hated anime battles because they'd tend to do stupid shit like this, or whenever a Pokemon used a move it would go to the "colorful background" dimension.
And I felt the fights never really had "weight" or "impact" because of the constant speedlining thing. Really took me out of them, watching the anime as a kid.
The best stylistic choice for battles from XY-anime onward was dropping that, seriously.
Ash vs Clemont were really great.
