I wanted to make a whole thread about this, but I figured this would be a good place to ask: what do you guys think about my concept for an invertebrate-only Dex? It's mostly just a fun thought experiment for now and I don't yet plan to make a romhack or anything. I know Lurantis is an orchid mimicking a mantis, but that's still good enough for me (I doubt many Pokemon are "literally" invertebrates even if they're based on one). Also it's the only qualifying Grass-type that isn't double weak to Fire if you want to maintain the starter triangle.
Of course by allowing Lurantis you open a whole can of worms with other Pokemon that can be argued as invertebrate-like (e.g. I've always seen Metagross as a robot spider and Onix as a cross between a snake and a worm, and I've seen people argue that Heatran is partially based on an insect) and I'm not too sure about them.
My main focus is visual and thematic cohesion, but hey bonus points if it also works as a fairly balanced gameplay experience. There's at least 1 line for every type but Normal, unless Silvally is added. Thankfully Normal hits nothing for weakness so all it really does is make Ghost a bit OP.
I was also thinking of an Object/Inorganic-Only Dex but that one's even harder when it comes to the iffier Pokemon (off the top of my head: Golem, Onix, Avalugg, Nihilego, Celesteela, Coalossal, Duraludon, and almost every single Ghost-type).
Also, while making this list it occurred to me that there's a severe lack of Bug-types which thrive in urban areas. Really just Trash Cloak Wormadam. We seriously need a housefly and stereotypical cockroach Pokemon.
