one thing about the save point functions, is that each run of the tower does not look like it's generated from a seed
i accidentally used a crystal cloth (full party heal) when i didn't mean to, reloaded the save, now i come back and this gold box is completely different
i don't know how far the savescumming can go (whether you can zero in on which of these niggers has the key or if it's determined randomly after the fight, or alter chest contents) but if i feel like i'm going to lose i'll test it out
