As someone that regularly browses both boards more than I should, /vp/ reminds me a lot of /co/ in that the current state of things is so annoyingly mediocre that it leads to off-topic threads happening more often than usual. And on 4chan, the thread "pipeline" is roughly something like this:
>When there's actually something new to talk about, the board talks about it
>When there's nothing new to talk about, old content is dug out to talk about
>When new and old discussion has been exhausted, we start talking about creative projects the board is cooking up
>When there's no creative projects from the board, threads start to branch off into being only tangentially related to the franchise; things like coom threads and eceleb threads are here
>When someone doesn't feel like talking about any of the above, that's when we start getting threads more suited to other boards; quite a lot of outrage farmers tend to end up here
>And when someone doesn't want to talk about literally any of the above or is just trying to be a low-effort shitposter, we end up with shit like politics threads on /vp/ - Pokemon
And really, /vp/'s problem is that because it focuses on ONE (1) franchise, the stagnation is felt really hard on the board as a whole.
