however, you're right that people who say "durr, looks like a digimon!" have no idea what they're talking about. both series have radically different aesthetics and design influences. pokemon is visually inspired by dragon quest (this is most apparent in the kanto dex). digimon draws inspiration from western superhero comics, smt demons and mecha anime.
both series have plenty of good designs, and the comparisons are pointless.
