Flawed as the previous series were, it added to the believably of the world that it would that that long for a kid and his pet mouse to make days or weeks or months to travel across what is basically an entire country in this universe. The fun little side adventures and the people populating it that games just have as NPCs
None of that exists now, just have them fucking go anywhere at any time, with some guest pandering episodes thrown in "Enjoy the 5 episode min-arc with Cynthia kids, remember to buy the Diamond and Pearl remakes" "Oh you missed May? Here she is, have fun for her four episodes before being put back in the 'we'll take them out for cheap applause box'
