ORAS were enjoyable games that added enough polish to the original content to feel refreshing, they just felt incredibly lazy and anemic compared to XY
GF built an entire 3D engine from the ground up for the first time in their history which made the scant content in XY feel forgivable, but the amount of things missing from ORAS despite a few nice additions felt like a real slap in the face considering how many liberties HGSS took to create a polished and properly finished experience based on some of the pretty primitive material in GSC
Hoenn is an incredibly evocative region and despite a lot of good visual design choices in ORAS it felt squandered on a game that was over in half the time it takes to finish a standard title
This gen has brought a lot of cool interesting things to the table and has resulted in arguably the best looking Pokémon games since HGSS after a few aesthetic nightmares during Gen V, but the lack of meaningful and rewarding content along with an increasingly unbalanced metagame has meant the first games in the series that finally feel visually and technically up to speed with the rest of the games industry are going to in hindsight be remembered mainly for their missed potential
