The MOST important thing for feathers is not the points or the skills. Its the themes. You want three themes, absolutely. If you have one or two, your chances to use them are much lower. Some of the guaranteed feathers will give you enough in skills and points that you don't need to reroll them, but most Yellow feather attempts will need rerolled to get three themes to match your pairs.
Then, points are important. I would say set a minimum for the main stat (Atk/SpA/HP), roll with yellow feathers until you get three themes and hit the minimum, then other stats are a bonus if they show up. Once you get enough feathers, you can raise your standards for minimums on your rerolls.
Skills are very hit or miss. Occasionally I'll keep one if get a great skill that makes sense for the theme(s), but its not often the focus. Make sure to pay attention to P-Move (or just 'Move) vs S-Move to know which is being boosted / reduced.
Don't worry about Pins (make parts of gear permanent). They are so rare or expensive that you are best off saving them until have a specific plan after a long save-up.
Also, skip the Trial Giver and Battle Facility Foe themes generally. For the former, very few get it and Alola covers all of them anyway. For the later, basically no one gets it except some odd units.
