>>45826452It would be more accurate to say that most of the people who STAYED with the ashnime even after growing up were part of the otaku-esque crowd thus these people started applying the somewhat out of place adult/teen anime "waifu" standards to a show that didn't originally mean to convey this sort of stuff. Pokemon is a kodomomuke("aimed towards children") show after all.
In XY the ashnime producers finally sort of recognised these otaku fans by introducing Serena's character.
