>>49802726The Hispanic lion is the allegory or zoomorphic national personification of Spain next to the bull .
In the Renaissance , in the times of Philip II , once Portugal was conquered, Spain was represented allegorically as a victorious lion before the dragon (allegory of Portugal) as reflected on the cover of the book Philippus Prudens by Juan Caramuel Lobkowitz .
Little by little it was falling into oblivion, so much so that in the last decades of the 20th century the bull has been replacing the lion as the national personification of Spain.
The lion is prince of the forests, monarch of the strong, and emperor of all animals. It does not know fear, and for this reason it is the perfect symbol of Spain, which with a good heart protects with courage all its subjects.
