We can literally have both, Champion Cup for beating the tournament, E4 as postgame like

>>40032092>>40032431>>40032740>If they don't appear in MY story, then they are literal whos.Nah. The games are supposed to happen in a big region with many cities and many people living in there. Meeting the E4 members in your journey makes it look like the world around is small and that YOU are the center of the plot where everything that happens in the game and you aren't there to witness, doesn't exist. E4 trainers being a big part of the story feels cheap and forced. Take for example Alola's E4 where 3 out of 4 are just characters you have already met (2 of them you have already fought) so they feel like they don't represent a real challenge.
E4 members are supposed to be the strongest trainers in the region with years of experience in battle and their own unique story on how they became what they are now. They make the world more real and makes you wonder how many more strong trainers are out there.
>>40032235Yes, E4 battles are really stale. That doesn't mean the Champion Cup isn't gonna be the same.
I never understood why the champion is stronger than the E4 but when you defeat the champion you become the champion and the E4 stays the same. Shouldn't the former champion be part of the E4 now?
The solution is obvious, E4 and Champion titles should be reversed. Make the player go through a tournament and battle the current champion in the last round (or make them battle after).
After the player becomes the champion, the E4 is available for battling in postgame. They aren't the champion's jobbers but a group of ex-champions who counsel, oversee and promote the league's tournament.
The also don't go monotype, make that only for gym leaders.
