I've been playing MMORPGs for years and when you give people 'sure way', they'll pretty quickly find the most efficient option and it'll spread in no time. Then game is getting boring pretty fast. The only thing that was making difference was gear upgrade or certain addons with random get success.
One of my favourite game can be great example: Ragnarok Online had 'card system'. Cards were items dropping from every monster on low chance, 0,01% to be accurate. Every monster had his own, unique card. Getting normal cards was nothing hard, you could mob huge groups and kill hundreds in pretty short time. BASIC competitive gear was ALWAYS including thesse cards. What was really valuable were 'boss cards'. Bosses were respawning like every hour or few, the hardest ones every 12 hours. Imagine getting 0,01% chance item from monster that has just one respawn per few hours or whole server which is tousands of people. Sounds almost impossible, but it was worth it, some boss cards were making huge difference and could change tides of battle between guilds. Sure, few boss cards were overpowered, but some of them were balanced and VERY useful at the same time.
