My Dad was an intense hockey card collector, and I got myself in to Pokemon. He bought packs of either one with me every weekend when I was young.
I feel like a large portion of people that actually collect the cards have interesting stories behind them. Collecting certain things is not exactly normal for people to enjoy, and there's usually a personal aspect to it that keeps that love alive.
