Also, fuck Misty's Starmie. Any time I pick Charmander and don't manage to catch an Oddish before her gym I always lose at least one Pokemon.

I've found that especially in Gen 1 I get caught off guard easily, and if something dies in a strong team of 3 it becomes a lot harder to replace. It's not really an issue until the Koffing's and Graveler's start showing up. I think I'm going to play it safe and just phase out certain Pokemon once I catch more prominent team members, that way if I have to pull from reserves things are already at a semi-reasonable level.
