>3D Pokemon Hot take I guess, but I found it refreshing to see Game Freak's 3D models. The old console games up to Battle Revolution reused many of the same models and animations for a while. Even though the game is flooded with old Pokemon, the new models and animations made me feel like I was discovering them all over again. And Pokemon Amie added an dimension to the game where your mons can physically react to you taking care of them. Shit was incredible. You might even call it insanity that they bothered to do things like sleeping, eating and laughing animations for all 721 Pokemon and their forms. It was the last time that this series got me excited about anything, because it felt like Pokemon's presentation and world were going somewhere after years of pixelart.
>Kalos RegionI have mixed thoughts about the Region. Kalos has a very strong art direction. The landmarks, cities, the geography, and all the paintings and statues and everything looks nice. I would even call it one of their best looking games because of how colorful and decorative everything is. But the 2.5D world map is a bit confusing. Sometimes the game wants to be 3D like in Lumiose City, and other times it wants to be a traditional top-down Pokemon game. It doesn't really FEEL like the first 3D Pokemon game (I would say that's PLA). When I think about the first 3D game in a series, I think of major leaps like Mario 64 or Sonic Adventure. Huge departures in terms of control scheme and level design. Kalos' map design is not that removed from DP or BW. Probably because Game Freak was still hesitant with moving to 3D games at all.
