The problem is Talonflame doesn't roll off the tongue. It's awkward to say. Why? Because both words in the portmonteau aren't one syllable each.
Sandslash. Sand Slash. 2 1-syllable words stuck together. Same with primeape, voltorb, etc etc.
But with talonflame, it just doesn't work.
