I do find it weird how all the pokemon remain still when they get hit. Yeah, they react in recoil, but most of the time their position is planted. Event attacks are stationary unless the model has to warp to other side and slap them around a bit.
It's like they cannot go out of bounds. Older 3D games gave the Pokemon more freedom to run around. Like Battle Revolution here (which has Zangoose, which I particularly was put off by in the new video):

It could change, but right now it looks like it might take another generation on a new platform until we can finally get rid of the rings have 3D battles more like the other games.
