It's been 15/16 years (In NA) and 6 generations of Pokemon and Bulbasaur is still the only starter Pokemon that begins with more than just being a single type. People keep talking about how the games have been getting easier and easier and need a difficulty setting.
RBY had a built in difficulty setting with the starters and it really shows when we look at the game as a whole.
Bulbasaur, is the easy mode for the game in that when you look at the overall game, if you use it, it really does break the game:
>1st gym: Rock weak to Grass
>2nd gym: Water weak to Grass
>3rd gym: Electric Grass resists
>4th gym: Grass = Grass
>5th gym: Poison = Poison
>6th gym: Psychic beats Poison
>7th gym: Fire beats Grass
>8th gym: Ground weak to Grass
And when you go through the E4, after you go through it all and get to Lance, his Dragonite gets stuck using Agility against your (hopefully by now) Venusaur.
tl;dr Bulbasaur is OP in RBY and there are no other starters to date that start out as more than one type.
