But rather than expanding on what Gen 6 did, they scrapped it all and began anew with Gen 7, and then again with Gen 8; this is only further brought home by how those generations decided to start the trend of "regional gimmicks" that get scrapped rather than centralizing and expanding on one mechanic like megas.
Gen 6 wasn't inherently bad, but it wasn't stellar. It's the downfall of Pokemon because there was a noticeable decline from Gen 5 and every subsequent game made worse and worse transgressions.

Sun and Moon should have been the Z version. Kalos didn't need a third version to be great, it just needed the direction it was going in to be a good one.
The only reason people look down on Gen 6 now is because Gen 7 and 8 ended up being even worse. If we still had things like the PSS, Super Training, Hordes, Inverse Battles, Triples/Rotation, the National Dex, the DexNav, roller skates, customizable bikes without the clown suit, dungeons, new mega evolutions, a story that doesn't revolve around following map markers, engaging lore and gameplay, and a good distribution of old and new Pokemon then Gen 6 wouldn't be as vehemently hated by zoomers trying to find a scapegoat for why SM/USUM/SWSH didn't have any of these things.
Face it, you know this to be true.

Even then, none of them compare to Rose. You can at least say every villain from Gens 1-6 is equally retarded, but Rose is just on a whole other level. Rose is just a rehash of Lysandre but without ANY of the justification. You go the entire game of XY seeing the class imbalance, poverty, abandoned Pokemon, and resource struggle firsthand. It's not provided entirely through one line of exposition at the end. Meanwhile the latter is ALL that Rose gets and it will never not be grating.
