That autism event and the game in general promotes you finding and playing the game in a crew.
Among equipment, there are a considerable amount to aim for throughout the game. A new player will need to get one set of equipment so that they can fight the stronger enemies to start getting a better set of equipment and so on, so there's an actual sense of ongoing progression.
The hardest enemies in the game require some of the best equipment you can get and a powerful team, and can reward you with some especially rare but important items that can help to improve your equipment further.
Also, each character has a story, usually involving a handful of others, and these groups have entirely different stories from each other. These stories can be explored through events, some of which are sequels to others, and through Fate Episodes, which are identical to Sync Pair Stories. They're far more in depth and varied though.
