Holy fucking shitballs, I didn't believe them when they said this thing was too OP for OU, but jesus goddamn christ how did Gamefreak overlook something so crazy? I'm usually the one to argue that things are balanced and not as OP as they say, but this is just absurd.
perish song and shadow tag. Just for the record, I feel like Mega Gengar is actually balanced if he doesn't have perish song, but perish song just brings him into a completely different tier.
OP broken-ass mega Gengar moveset:
- Perish Song
- Protect/Substitute
- Destiny Bond
- Disable

There is no way on earth to beat this thing unless you know what moveset he's running.
> vs strong offensive pokemon: protect, disable, perish song, spam protect and switch for a free kill. 50% of the time Gengar can survive pokemon that can 2HKO it after the disable since protect sometimes works twice in a row.
> OR if there's risk of dying, switch to a counter/use destiny bond for a free kill
> vs defensive pokemon: protect, disable, perish song, spam protect and switch for a free kill. Pretty much no way to stop it if he's used as a revenge killer for this.
Nothing in the entire game counters mega-Gengar because of his versatility. Nothing. Here's a list of things that come close to countering him if he's running perish trap.
> Another mega Gengar sometimes
> very fast taunt pokemon (Crobat and Aerodactyl if they win the speed tie, Sableye, Whimsicott, and Liepard)
> encore sometimes
> Magic bounce pokemon (Espeon, mega Absol, Xatu)
> ghost-type pokemon who can switch out of shadow tag into a counter that won't die to it.
> soundproof pokemon (pretty much only Mr. Mime since everyone else has better abilities to take instead)
> sword dance/nasty plot boosters that don't mind Gengar using disable turn 1
I think that's it.
So guys, what do you think? How do you counter mega Gengar when you run into him on wi-fi?
