Sometimes a Pokemon you might have otherwise written off simply for its design winds up serving you well enough in a battle that you just can't help but grow attached to them.
I never insult someone for liking a certain Pokemon, even if I don't necessarily understand why they like it. There's not even anything inherently wrong with liking a Pokemon BECAUSE it's optimal or does its job well. Just as someone shouldn't be put down for liking something that isn't great in a fight, they also shouldn't be put down for liking Pokemon that are.
