However, in Magic, there's a concept called "The Stack" where cards resolve and your opponent has an opportunity to counter whatever you're playing. The rules team looked at coming into play abilities vs Muk as an MTG stack and deemed that muk didn't affect it.
So yeah, they were pretty butts
