Having recently rewatched Ash vs Trip, Ash vs Cameron, and Ash vs Alain, does anyone else not like when Ash's Pikachu is too durable? I'm fine with him being a tiny little powerhouse, but only when it comes to dealing big damage and being nimble. If Pikachu gets hit, he should basically already have a foot out the door. Pikachu vs Serperior was especially pathetic in this regard, with Pikachu spending the entire fight getting walloped, strangled, and slammed into the ground, only to essentially one-shot Serperior with a single (disadvantage) Electro Ball.
Pikachu busting two pseudos in a row is also uninspired, albeit not as related to his durability. Why give Ash a full team if half of them are going to eat shit so that Pikachu can carry?
