First ever poke'mon of my own was Cutie the Torchic. I raised him and only him into a shitty blaziken with hyper beam Fireblast Earthquake and Strength.
That magic is gone because this is a kids game. And Gamefreak will never make it for adults. In fact they'd rather us just absorb the nostalgia shit and be quiet so the kids can play the new stuff.
