>>46173663The "core" of Digimon is the v-pets, which mostly suck as they didn't keep up with the improvements done in Tamagotchi. The Vital Bracelet was created recently to fix that.
After that there is the anime series which is what most people like about Digimon. These oddly mirror the "generations" of Pokémon games in quality. The best way to get familiar with Digimon "culture" is by watching these up until "Gen 5" (Digimon Data Squad or Savers).
Everything else is licensed stuff that influences the v-pets less than the anime, with the notable exception of the first manga and the card games. The games have barely anything to do with each other and are mostly Digimon versions of something else. Even the acclaimed Digimon Cyber Sleuths is just Persona-lite. The closest thing to a "proper/genuine" or mostly original Digimon game is the first Digimon World for the PlayStation but you're better off playing it's true successor (as other games were called Digimon World in America despite being unrelated), Digimon World: Next 0rder. If you like Smash Bros. clones, Rumble Arena and Battle Spirit are nice (even if outdated) but it's better if you watched the anime up until Gen 3. The closest thing to Pokémon games is the Digimon Story series (World 3 on PS, World DS and World Dawn/Dusk on DS). If you like mobile games, Digimon ReArise is neat and has a nice community.
