That shit is extremely harmful and there's no happiness down that path, only despair. Notice how a ton of these people have already been diagnosed with some sort of mental illness, usually autism. They're being taken advantage of just to push a cause under the guise that it'll make things better or help outcasts fit in.

and rather impressionable friend out of doing this but it didn't work and I felt like the world's biggest failure and was seriously considering cutting all contact with them instantly. I was disgusted at the world for allowing this to happen and disgusted in myself for not being able to do anything.
