The game honestly didn’t get popular in US until after the show was around for a bit. By then, of course most kids knew charmander turns into a fucking dragon so they would choose it. Blastoise was considered the second coolest one by most kids. I personally thought squirtle looked the coolest out of all the starters so I chose it. That means unfortunately bulbasaur landed as the least popular. People these days circlejerk bulbasaur because they all want to be the special, unique one, but I bet most of those people, if they played the original games back then, didn’t even pick bulby as their first starter
