Am I the only one who sees this dumb word tossed around here and can't pinpoint what it's supposed to fucking mean? People will point to routes from Pokémon Emerald like 119 with its naturally occurring, jagged, crystal blue river of water running alongside a pleasant uphill mass of land fleshed out with grafts of tall green grass, bike paths, rocky terrain, man made trails, and simple but tasteful customizable secret bases, and call that 'soul'????? And they think it's beautiful when it rains too??? Where the fuck is the option to heal in the secret base automatically and where are the dens containing fully evolved lv. 50+ mini-boss battles? What the fuck is 'soul' about the less is more nature of GBA era graphics that leave so much open to the imagination as opposed to superior static 3d blobs with 1-2 in-battle animations? Like you have to actually put effort into finding Feebas on that route too. All of the in-battle sprites have way too much character. And it's not just Emerald. Platinum, Fire Red/Leaf Green, Heart Gold/Soul Silver, even the 5th, 1st, and 2nd gen games... they all have these types of problems. Like DPPt gen touches on themes of the infinite and God and other stuff that doesn't even fucking exist. It takes way too long to beat too. LGPE are good games as opposed to FRLG because FRLG try fleshing out the world way too much with Sevii Islands that are not linear enough and have hard puzzles that I couldn't google at the time like the Regi trio had back in Ruby/Sapphire.
