>>52869198I also draw so I'm not against the idea of redesigning a Pokemon. I find it interesting even if there are very few redesigns that I prefer.
Putting aside my concerning liking for Gholdengo, I can see it being one of the most divisive designs this gen (or every gen) it's not just goofy, it's absurdly goofy. While I completely understand why people hate it and won't convince anyone that Gholdengo is a good design, I can tell you why I don't like any of the redesigns I've seen either.
Gholdengo isn't a perfect design but it's complete and simple enough that any redesigns just end up throwing the whole thing out which yeah, people who hate Gholdengo would like that. all of them lean so heavily into oooh spooky chest mimic, spooky coin monster direction. They're missing Gholdengo's personality and when you remove that, it's not Gholdengo anymore.
with something like the starters you can draw a spooky fire crocodile, a magician cat, a dancer peacock in a different way and they'll still be recognizable as redesigns because it retains most of their core themes. Gholdengo designs just cut the concept of Gholdengo in half.
Gimmighoul itself is already full of personality when you look at the roaming form guys up close. I think people are too fixated on it becoming a mimic monster when it literally has a whole another form outside of the treasure chest
