That's great that you play that way, OP, and more power to you if that's what makes you comfortable, but that doesn't describe what feels "go-with-the-flow" for me.
I'm not comfortable using a Pokemon that I know is not even in the upper half of the best it could be throughout the entire game. I'm not comfortable with an Relaxed Raichu, a Flame Body Litwick, or any combination of bad nature and ability. I'm not comfortable knowing I didn't spend the extra 15-20 minutes to catch a Pokemon that at least the better ability and not a completely debilitating nature.
I'm comfortable spending the little extra time to know I'm at not going to underperform, even if I'm not the best. I'm comfortable compromising for that Gentle Kadabra or Early Bird Seedot (cause let's be honest, I probably won't use weather during the main game). I'm comfortable with any sort of IV spread since it doesn't affect stats all that much for the in-game levels (and is difficult to figure out exactly at lower levels).
I don't think my playstyle is any worse or better than anyone else, no matter if they use the first Pokemon they meet (in Nuzlockes or otherwise) or spend an upwards of an hour trying to find a good spread of IVs WITH a good nature. To me, Pokemon (and all video games, really) are about feeling good, so people can play in whatever style they feel most comfortable with, no matter how fast or slow that may be.
