I did lose to my rival in the first battle, but I don't consider the Locke to officially start until I have some balls, so rather than restart I just rolled with it. My Piplup is Jolly.
Got some balls, get my Route 201 encounter, and it's a Bidoof. Not surprising. Catch it, move on to Lake Verity. Bidoof. Bidoof. Bidoof. Bidoof. Bidoof. Fuck, that's 5. No encounter there for me. Up to 202, get a Shinx.
This isn't a great start, but we'll see where it all leads.
