Also, people initially disliked them because the artstyle is slightly different, especially the eyes since the pupils are now round instead of oval.
Again, they both have tons of art now despite the first impression. People mostly had to get used to the artstyle, and did so after actually having played the game themselves. It helps that these protags having something that resembles a personality.
