Fight scenes should be as long as the need to be in order to get the point across. In my experience, however, duels are around 2k words, multi-stage skirmishes are around 4k, and entire battles might even take most of entire chapters. This is speaking out my ass from a PMD perspective, though, since I've never written main series before.
