Even then, slapping the age onto the character is usually done so to pander to the audience like that person said. Besides, I find myself more attracted to the older characters (even when I was a kid), like Lorelei, Sabrina, Karen, Professor Ivy, etc. If tomorrow the Pokemon company said 'umm actually Lorelei is canonically 16 years old' then: 1) I wouldn't believe them because she looks in her late 20s, and 2) I don't care either way because she's still a fictional character.
