So, I never understood why some people on this board defend RNG. They tout it as a hardcore mechanic, as if they were hardcore gamers and the people they were arguing with were filthy casuals who just don't know about game design. Really though, RNG is super lazy casual game design and very few people actually enjoy it. I feels unfair from a PvP aspect because it takes away control from both players, and therefore less skill can be expressed by them. From more of a single players aspect all it does is pad play time with boring farming and encourages save scumming from the player. Not that farming is bad as it can give the player a sense of accomplishment rather than just awarding the player instantly, but RNG farming IS bad because instead of giving the player a linear sense of accomplishment, it randomly awards the player with whatever they are RNGing for instantly in a variable amount of time. This does not feel good at all because it lacks a sense of accomplishment that a more linear farming method gives the player. Can anyone present to me a case in which RNG will generally feel good to most players? I genuinely can't think of a good reason for so much RNG in Pokemon.
