This board's biggest problem is its preposterously large population of casuals, It's really that simple. A cursory glance at the posts on this board makes it clear that a lot of the posters here have not played every mainline game, some of them probably haven't even played through every region. Instead of playing the games and coming up with original talking points to defend their favorite region, these people just repeat what they hear on /vp/. This leads to a very low level of discussion. In that regard, OP was right about one thing at least.
/vp/ is basically a pokemon forum where you can't talk about pokemon in good faith. Because it can't fulfill its primary purpose, users find secondary purposes for the board: porn, memes, shitposting, and other bullshit. OP's complaints all stem from the low quality of the board's users. They create an environment where you can't talk about anything so people just shitpost. Going beyond that, I get the feeling that nobody here browses any other boards. Which only makes the shitposting worse
