>>13945484this may get rejected as a stupid analogy, but it isn't too far from the truth.
Say you decide to make a Sawsbuck with a different moveset than what Smogon suggests, because that is, after all experimenting and if nobody ever tries something new, everything's just going to go stale.
Turns out what you planned on doesn't work - possibly hundreds of hours lost, even worse if you relied on an egg move or a certain hidden power.
This is why simulators are all the more popular right now - because you go straight to the theory crafting, no bullshit timesinks. Without IV's in the way you could get to it without an unreasonable amount of effort to test new ideas, but as it stands it's just plain tedious. As long as you complain about people hacking things like showdown will continue to exist - or IV's get removed.
Personally I don't care, which way it goes, but don't try to deny why this happens, just because someone doesn't want put an excessive amount of time into a team that isn't "surefire, Smogon approved". Until then enjoy playing the same people over and over again, with the exact same setup each time, only the smaller chance based mechanics deciding the battles.
