She was the first female rival and the first rival who was nice to you. She was also my age at the time and the first female character in any game I had played that was repetitively there to interact with me. A few years later and I find out about the fanart she gets and I was already a boob guy and that just reaffirmed her as best girl for me. I didn't really look at other pokegirls until Gen 5 because sexy gym leaders Skyla and Elesa. Interestingly enough Cynthia didn't do it for me at the time. (She does now with all of the mommy memes.) but May has always been my number one and seeing how I don't have the same attachment to the games anymore, May will always be best girl.
