If you want big screens, go for the XL.

If you only want to play Pokemon, you do not need a New 3DS because right now its only purpose is to play Monster Hunter.

I have my 3DS and 3DS XL since release and they look like new. I clean them everytime after playing so that they wont get dirty and because i hate fingerprints on them.
