I enjoyed Unova a lot. A fat-ass Pokedex with only regional pokemon in it is how every gen should be. If they didn't remind people of gen 1 Pokemon so much I think the dex would be shit on a lot less. Though every new generation introduces some good and some bad designs, gen 5 seemed to introduce designs that are either really good (Samurott, Mandibuzz) or really bad (Sawsbuck, Beartic).
I appreciate that they at least tried to take the series in a slightly more mature direction by having older protagonists and a somewhat deeper plot. BW2 felt like a natural sequel. Hard mode was a step in the right direction and should have been a series staple from then on. Imagine how refined it could have been, had GF tried.
The exp system is kind of horseshit and stuff like Vullaby and Pawniard evolving around the time you get to the Elite Four is definitely horseshit. The Elite Four is forgettable second only to Kalos's. Unova as a region is also pretty boring with few actually interesting places (when you get past the 3D gimmick).
That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Gen 5 wasn't perfect but it was definitely the peak of the franchise.
